about

==================================

Having listened to the CD Bruno Mangueira three times, I have decided to use it as my “soundtrack” to write the liner notes.

I must confess I was expecting to hear another “guitar” album, just as great as so many others which have been released in Brazil. Surprisingly enough, however, Bruno has shown me a side of his artistry I had not noticed the few times we got together. In addition to being an inspired and talented composer, he proves to be a fine, full-fledged arranger who explores Brazilian and jazz genres in various settings. His orchestration skills are particularly noteworthy.

On this album, this remarkable guitarist plays fantastic solos, generously leaving space for the collaboration of the excellent musicians he managed to put together. That, of course, left me wanting to hear more of Bruno’s polished performance. Nevertheless, when he does play, he delivers incredibly melodic solos which, if necessary, can be quite technical and unrestrained as well, showcasing his solid musical foundation, maturity and versatility. Bruno knows that a guitarist should not act like a Formula One race car driver desperately fighting for the pole position.

It is gratifying to listen to such an excellent album. Bruno Mangueira defiantly swims against the stream of a declining, money-seeking music industry. We now have grounds for hope.
